Baseball and Moonshine...................

Ryan had his last baseball game of the season on Sunday. I don't know if it was the hot weather, or people being away on summer vacation, but many members of his team did not show up that day. So instead of cancelling altogether, the coach decided to just let the boys practice their hitting, catching, running and fielding skills.

Here's a short clip of Ryan working on his hitting:

Damn, this boy can hit! :) I have another where he hit a homerun and ran all the bases, but the camera's battery was dying and the video blurs in and out.

And last week, while he and I waited for the bus to pick him up on his last day of school, we walked outside to greet a beautiful morning. Not only was the sun shining brightly, but the moon was out too, ever so faint. We talked about how even though it was morning time, we could still see the moon shine up in the sky.

A couple of minutes went by, and I decided to pass the rest of the time by singing some songs. I sang "You are my Sunshine". I've sung that song to him, just about everyday since he was born. When I was done, I told him it was time for him to pick a song for us to sing; figuring he will pick some Hannah Montana or Camp Rock song.

He thinks for a minute and says ok. Then he proceeds to sing to me "You are my MOONSHINE, my only MOONSHINE", etc... I laughed so hard, I had tears running down my cheeks. When I hear the word moonshine, I immediately picture someone brewing up their own batch of illegal bootleg liquor!

It took me a couple of days to figure out what picture should accompany this story. I pondered long and hard, and then remembered a shot we took of him on his very first New Years Eve. After Ryan fell asleep in his carseat, Mark and I polished off a bottle of champagne. Being the goofballs that we are, we thought it would be funny to pose Ryan for this picture. I think it works perfectly for this occasion.

Ryan has always been my sunshine, and now he will also forever be my "moonshine" too!

I am laughing so hard right now. When I read "moonshine" I immediately thought of a jug of whiskey too. Of course, you picked the perfect photo.

I may need to start calling you moonshine now.

He is a great little ball player and of course such a sweetie.

I know I owe you an email! Will try to write this weekend. Have a great 4th of July!!
